Photos: Hoodlums cut off Youth corper's hand in vicious attack

Folakemi Akinbode, an NYSC nurse attached to the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, Bayelsa state, was viciously attacked by a group of still unidentified hoodlums on Monday August 5th around 9pm on her way to the corpers' lodge.

Folakemi was returning from her shift in the hospital when the hoodlums attacked her with a machete. Her right hand was nearly severed. Fortunately she survived the attack. That is her above after surgery. Now see what they did to her after the cut...

According to residents of the area where the attack took place, the violence is mainly perpetrated by locals and it has been going on for a while. A few weeks ago, they broke into the hospital's lab and attacked the technicians and also broke into the doctors quarters to do same and carted away their valuables. The state government and hospital executives should please do something about the safely of corpers and everyone else in this area

The policeman caught on tape demanding bribe has been arrested

Just heard that the policeman (pictured above) caught on tape trying to obtain N25k from a motorist has been arrested by the Nigerian police. You believe it? The police claimed via a Facebook post that the erring police officer, whose name they didn't make public, is awaiting an “orderly room trial;

The police said the officer is a sergeant attached to the Lagos State Command Motor Traffic Division.

Genevieve Nnaji helps the motherless children



I've heard severally that Genevieve is a silent philanthropist. She helps a lot of people but tries not to make it public. The star actress shared the photos above today on her instagram page and wrote about her plans to find a better home for the motherless children.
She wrote:

Female rapper claims Jay Z hit on her while married to Beyonce

Over the weekend an up and coming rapper named Liv (pictured right) claimed Jay Z tried to 'hit it' while married to Beyonce...

Liv tells PNC Radio
"For the most part, Jay hit me on some, 'I'll hit you when I'm in town'...This is while he is married to Beyonce. For me, I'm not that chick. I could do a lot of things but (I choose not to.). I have a lot of respect for Beyonce. As an artist, as a woman, as a wife."
"I could do a lot of grimey things, so I could get in a position, but I would have to look at myself in the mirror...Why not just work for it?... I'm not even on that. I'm not trying to compromise for this game."

EFCC arrests man with 30 ATM cards and 8 signed cheques

Below is a press release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an intelligence report.
At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of different banks with which he allegedly withdrew a total sum of five hundred and fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found in his possession.  Eight signed UBA cheques belonging to sundry persons were also found on him. Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has volunteered useful information.

He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

He may be in a UK prison serving time for money laundering but that didn't stop his 55th birthday party from taking place yesterday Sunday August 4th. It was a gathering of the who is who in Delta state as family, friends, political associates, traditional rulers and captains of industries gathered to celebrate the 55th birthday ceremony of the former Delta State governor in his country home Oghara. The activities kicked off with a thanksgiving service for Chief James Ibori at the First Baptist Church Ogharefe where prayers were held and thereafter guest were entertained at a reception in his country home Oghara. The occasion had in attendance past and present members of the National Assembly, past and present members of Delta state house of Assembly, past and present commissioners, top politicians, traditional rulers and lots more. A novelty match will be played in honour of Chief James Ibori on Tuesday 6th August 2013 at the Oghara township stadium built by Ibori. More pics from the party below...

Chidi Lloyd sues the Nigerian police N50billion for ill treatment

While in their custody, embattled Rivers State law maker Chidi Lloyd claims he was blindfolded, battered and tortured by the Nigerian police and for that, he wants N50 billion as compensation.

His legal team made this known today after Chidi Lloyd was granted bail by a Rivers State high court. The presiding judge also ordered that the majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly should not be rearrested by the police. The case was adjourned till August 12th.

If he's asking for N50billion for ill treatment, then the colleague he nearly killed with a mace should be asking for what na???. Lol.

RIP to the three Nigeria Union of Journalists officials we lost

 
Three members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Adolphus Okonkwo, (NUJ National Financial Secretary), Kafayat Odunsi, (NTA - Lagos) and Tunde Oluwanike, (FRCN -Ibadan), lost their lives in a fatal road accident as they were returning from a meeting in Abuja on Friday August 2nd. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

The spectators were treated to masquerade displays, and various enactments from the rich history of the Okere People.  Various groups from within the community attired in beautiful colourful native costumes paid homage to the traditional ruler with the Motor bikers group drawing the most attention with their biking display.
When the first shade of darkness crept in the masquerades disrobed leaving only their loin clothes  in preparation for their  departure .This was immediately followed by the final race  of the Masquerades with the entire audience offering prayers for diseases and evil forces to depart from their midst.
 Mr David Oki, the community public relations officer said the festival has thrown open many tourism and business opportunities for visitors and indigenes alike.

Apostle Anselm Madubuko set to marry Kenyan gospel music star

A year after his wife Connie Madubuko died, the Head Pastor of Revival Assembly Church, Apostle Anselm Madubuko is getting ready to remarry, according to a report by Yes Magazine this week. Apostle Madubuko is set to marry 33 year old daughter of a bishop and Kenyan gospel award winning music star, Emmy Kosgei. Their traditional marriage will hold on Thursday August 29th in Kenya, while their church wedding will hold on Saturday August 31 at Revival Miracle Cathedral in Lagos. A reception will follow later at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos.
