Police inspector, driver killed in clash

Falola
The violence that erupted between the youths of Oke-Odan community in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State and security agents in the area last Monday has left two persons dead.
Irate youths in the town had allegedly engaged policemen and operatives of the state anti-crime military security outfit, Operation MESA in an exchange of fire over the killing of a member of the community, Yinka Falola.
The violence which had lasted three days culminated in the alleged reprisal killing of a police Inspector, Kolapo Lasisi, on Wednesday by some youths who also burnt two police vehicles and vandalised twelve others.
Eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that violence broke out on Monday afternoon when a police officer attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos, Inspector Olusesan Sounde, allegedly shot and killed 30-year-old Falola.
According to the eyewitness, the FED-SARS inspector had allegedly slapped Falola who was on a motorcycle on his way from the farm.
Falola was said to have retaliated, infuriating the police inspector who allegedly cocked his rifle and shot him.
After firing the shot, the alleged killer policeman was said to have insisted that Falola was a smuggler.
“Yinka (Falola) was never a smuggler, he was a commercial driver. He had altercations with one of the SARS men and the policeman slapped him. He retaliated and the policeman fired at close range killing him instantly,” the source said.
Falola’s death immediately triggered the reprisal by the youths of Oke–Odan who mobilised themselves to the police check point where they violently protested the killing.
Soldiers attached to Operation MESA who raced to the scene were also alleged to have been attacked by the angry youths, resulting in another shoot-out between them and the security agencies.
The rampaging youths were said to have then marched down to the SARS check point where they burnt two police vehicles and vandalised 12 others at the Oke–Odan police station.
Another round of the crisis which broke out on Wednesday was said to have resulted in the alleged killing of a police inspector, Kolapo Lasisi.
Lasisi was said to have got trapped in a swamp while attempting to escape from the rampaging youths who allegedly caught up with him and hacked him to death.
The state Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident said the police inspector was killed by the angry youths.
Adejobi stated that the youths launched a nocturnal raid on the SARS check point where they killed the police inspector, buried him in the swamp and took away his riffle.
The police spokesman also disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye visited the town on Wednesday where he held a meeting with the traditional ruler of the community over the crisis.
Adejobi further disclosed that the inspector who killed Falola had already been arrested and detained at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, while the corpse of the slain inspector had been exhumed from the swamp.
He added, “The family of the late Falola as well as that of the slain inspector are demanding justice. We will ensure that justice is done, especially when the rifle of the inspector is still missing. We must recover the rifle and we must get it as well as the man who killed the inspector.”

Under-17 World Cup: Nigeria’s Eaglets Cruise To Final

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria Tuesday evening booked a place in the final of the ongoing FIFA U- 17 World Cup taking place in the United Arab Emirates, UAE..
The three times champions who are on the verge of winning the trophy for the fourth time defeated Sweden 3-0 in the semi final match which was played at Rashid Stadium in Dubai.
After missing several scoring chances early in the game, Taiwo Awoniyi opened scoring in the 21st minute after he received a through pass from teammate Kelechi Iheanacho.  After the goal Nigeria stamped their authority on the game
However, Sweden,  who played 3-3 draw with Nigeria in the group stage, failed to live up to expectations as the first half tie ended 1-0 in favour of the Nigerian team.

The second half was a different ball game as the Swedes came out to get an equaliser but all their efforts to reduce the tally proved abortive. At a stage Sweden were restricted to playing the game in their own half by a more determined Nigerian side, who were cheered endlessly by the fans.
Awoniyi scored his second goal in the 67th minute but the referee ruled out the goal.
Two quick goals from Samuel Okon and Chidera Ezeh in the 80th and 81st minute was all Nigeria needed to confirm their supremacy over their opponents in the pulsating encounter watched by former footballer of the year, Diego Maradona and FIFA officials.
With this victory, Nigeria face Mexico on Friday by 5p.m. Nigerian time.
Mexico who the Eaglets beat 6-1 in the group stage had earlier in the day defeated Argentina in the first semi final tie 3-0.
Argentina will now face Sweden in the third place match at 2pm on Friday.

Court reinstates Oyinlola as PDP secretary

former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola
A Court of Appeal, Abuja, on Wednesday reinstated a former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The three-man panel chaired by Justice Amiru Sanusi upturned the January 11 judgment of the Federal High court, Abuja, which sacked him.
Justice Abdul Kafarati had declared that Oyinlola’s nomination and subsequent election as the National Secretary of PDP were invalid, null and void.
He relied on the order and two separate judgments of the Federal High Court, Lagos that nullified the South-West PDP zonal congress that produced him as candidate for the national convention in March 2012.
The trial judge gave the verdict in a suit by the Ogun State Executive Committee of the party.
Dissatisfied, Oyinlola approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja, asking it to set aside the judgment.
In its judgment on Wednesday, the appellate court said the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos relied on to remove Oyinlola was not binding on him because he was not a party in the suit.
Justice Joseph Pine Pur, held that the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, was null and void because Oyinlola was denied a fair hearing in the Lagos suit relied on to sack him.
Besides, the court held that the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, could not stand because the suit which led to the order was a multiplicity of action and therefore constituted an abuse of court process.
The panel noted that the suit was the third one filed by the plaintiffs to enforce the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which nullified the South West zonal congress.
In its third reason, the panel noted that Oyinlola had already filed a motion for stay of the Lagos judgment at the Court of Appeal, Lagos, as at the time the Ogun SEC of the PDP filed a suit to enforce the judgment in Abuja.
Reacting to the judgment, counsel for the Ogun SEC, Ajibola Oluyede, said there was no evidence to support the reasons given by the Court of Appeal.
He said his clients would appeal the judgment at the Supreme Court to maintain status quo.
Oyinlola had contended that the judgment delivered by Justice Kafarati was against the weight of evidence before the court.
He said the trial judge erred in law when he overruled his preliminary objection and assumed jurisdiction in the suit.
According to him, the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the case because the defendants are not agencies of the Federal Government.
Oyinlola also contended that the subject matter of the suit was an intra-party dispute which clearly was not justiciable, adding that the Federal High Court and indeed no court of law had jurisdiction over the subject matter of the suit.
He submitted that the judge erred in law when the court disregarded the ruling of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal in CA/35/12 delivered on June 25, 2012.
He therefore asked the appellate court for an order reversing the judgment of the trial judge and substituting thereto an order striking out and or dismissing the entire action with costs.
Justice Kafarati had held that the suit was not an intra-party affair of the party as claimed by (Oyinlola) but a cause of action seeking the interpretation of the two separate judgments of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which nullified the zonal congress.
He said the suit did “not constitute an abuse of court process” therefore it is “justiciable,” adding “the action discloses reasonable cause of action.”
“On the whole, the two preliminary objections are dismissed. All the three questions are answered in the affirmative and the reliefs sought granted,” he declared.
The Ogun State PDP Chairman, Adebayo Dayo, and Alhaji Semiu Sodipo (Secretary) for and on behalf of other state’s officers, had challenged the retention of Oyinlola as a PDP national officer.
By the nullification of the South West zonal congress that produced Oyinlola as candidate, the plaintiffs contended that Oyinlola had since ceased to be the national secretary of the party.
Besides, they pointed out that Oyinlola was foisted on them by a former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in concert with the then National Vice Chairman (South West), Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo.
Consequently, the plaintiffs asked the court to declare Oyinlola’s continuous stay in office as invalid, null and void since his candidacy had been nullified.
They also asked the court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to delete his name and replace same with another candidate that would emerge from a fresh zonal congress to be ordered by the court.

Davido’s bodyguard reportedly gets involved in club fight

I don't know what the facts are, but people who were at the club have tweeted about the incident. The fight reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday morning after Davido's performance at the Colourful World of More Concert. The singer and his crew went to a club to chill and a fight later on allegedly ensued between Davido's bodyguard and the club bouncers. Like I said, I don't know what the details are but continue to see some tweets from two people who seem to have witnessed the fight

Tonto Dikeh 'collaborates' with D'banj

There's a lot of stuff that happens in this our entertainment industry that I hear but decide not to write. A lot. Half of them y'all will not even believe. Lol. But here's one that I think all you 'amebo lovers' should know. Tonto Dikeh and D'banj have gotten quite 'close' in recent times. She has been seen several times at D'banj's home in Lekki. She's recording songs at the studio in his house and whenever she records late into the night, she spends the night there. Now, I'm not implying anything o, I'm just stating facts. And you don't have to believe my story o...hehe.

Quite a few people have seen and interacted with Tonto at D'banj's place and some even think she's his current babe because of how much time she spends there and some of the 'things' the two stars get up to ... but me I don't know that one oh, all I know is that she spends time there to further her music career and I do not know if D'banj is planning to sign her to his record label but he once said that if he signs her, she will blow!

Meanwhile, I hear the new song Tonto is recording at D'banj's studio is a banger. We dey wait to hear am..:-) Oh and by the way, Tonto Dikeh once dated Don Jazzy! End of my amebo...#runsaway...:-)

Would you rock this dress?

This is definitely one of the most daring red carpet dresses I've ever seen. The paparazzi even got a close up pic of her 'privates' by taking a shot from a side angle. Actress Jamie Alexander wore this risqué black mesh Azzaro dress to the Thor world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, on Monday night. Would you dare rock this dress? See the stab wound Davido's bodyguard received during club fight + statement from Davido's camp

You saw the tweets yesterday from people who said they witnessed the fight at the club early Monday morning...now Davido's camp have released pictures of his injured bodyguard, TJ, who was allegedly stabbed twice, in the neck and the hand, by the DJ of the club. They also released a press statement explaining what happened that day. Find the statement below and more photos of TJ after the cut...
The facts: DJ Jaydee of Grotto stabbed Davido's bodyguards, evades police
Falsified accounts of a recent incident at the Grotto club on Sunday have made the rounds. Davido’s Management hereby wishes to clear the air on them with the statement below.
After a successful outing at a recent concert on Sunday November 3 at Eko Hotels, popular musician Davido headed to the Grotto Nightclub on Victoria Island. After a brief stay at the club, Davido and his crew proceeded to his vehicle outside to head home. Upon entering the vehicle, he realized that his ATM card was missing. His body guard TijaniOlamilekanOgbeidebetter known as Teejay got down from the vehicle to search for the ATM card in the club.
Upon alighting, he was accosted by an already drunk ‘DJ Jide Jay Dee’who had in his hand a champagne flute. This DJ Jaydee informed Teejay that he had the ATM card in his hand and would like to personally deliver it to Davido. Teejay politely asked him to hand over the ATM card as it was clear that Davido was right in his view in his car. DJ Jaydee refused to hand over the card without payment and instead proceeded to shout that he knew who Davido was personally and that he [DJ Jaydee]was a known person in Lagos. Teejay refusd him access to Davido which led DJ Jaydee to throw the ATM card on the ground  in anger. As Teejay bent to retrieve the card, DJ Jaydee stabbed him in the neck with the champagne flute he was holding. An oblivious Teejay threw him off his back and proceeded to return the ATM card to Davido. As he was entering the car to leave, one of the occupants noticed the stab wounds and called his attention to the blood. Teejay promptly alighted from the car and went to confront DJ Jaydee who was still yelling outside.DjJaydee apparently not done with his violence stabbed the bodyguard a second time, this time on his hands and ran off into the club. Teejay searched for him to no avail and left the club soon after.

Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has since reported the matter to the police and they have been to the club to invite DJ Jaydee for questioning. Grotto has been unable to deliver DJ Jaydee to the police, instead malicious and falsified accounts of the incident have found their way on social media portals being championed of course by sources intent on casting vile aspersions on Davido  and his bodyguard Teejay. DjJaydee is yet to surface.Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has pressed charges to this effect.

Davido’s management categorically refutes all the allegations of violence as insinuated by some. Teejay was carrying out his job by restricting access to Davido from an unknown and obviously inebriated and violent individual. He performed his duties as bodyguard and instead of resorting to violence, followed the dictates of the law.Members of the public and fans should please note that Davido was not present at this unfortunate incident that occurred that night as erroneously reported in a few quarters.

Thank You

Progressive Govs Forum statement on police invasion of G7 meeting

Yesterday, the DPO of Asokoro police division, CSP Nnanna Ama, invaded the meeting of the G7 governors at the Kano government lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. The Progressive Governors Forum have released a statement condemning the incident. Their statement below...
Nigerian Police: Now Armed Wing of PDP
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) hereby registers its dismay that for the second weekend in a row, officers of the Nigeria Police illegally stormed and disrupted a meeting by seven governors and other Nigerians going about their constitutionally guaranteed rights of association.

The police action is not only alarming but also demonstrates clearly that the force, instead of carrying out its constitutional responsibilities of maintaining peace and order in the society has become no more than the armed wing of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Coming barely a week after storming the Adamawa State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja to disrupt a lawful meeting of like-minded individuals, and despite public outcry at the tactics of the police, the Force, in clear violation of all rules of civility still went ahead to disrupt a G7 caucus meeting at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge on the 3rd November, 2013, in Asokoro, Abuja.

If the Nigeria Police has not become the armed wing of the PDP, why should the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Asokoro Police Unit, CSP NnannaAma, burst into the venue and order the meeting stopped, threatening to mobilize troops to abort it if his order was not obeyed?

For a DPO to have the impudence to force his way into the meeting of perceived opponents of President Goodluck Jonathan to disrupt meeting of governors and members of the Senate and the House of Representatives that were duly elected by Nigerians, and also threaten them with arrest can only indicate that the orders must have come from the Presidency. But for the police to carry out what is evidently an illegal order reflects a new low in the history of the Nigerian police.

The PGF hereby condemns in totality the antics of the Nigeria police in breaking up peaceful meetings and harassing Nigerians, while also calling for a probe into the PDP – Nigeria Police relations. Is the police established and paid to serve all Nigerians or merely to serve the interests of the PDP? If the police have become the armed wing of the PDP, then what differentiates it from the terror tactics of those who seek to violently impose their political beliefs on others?

The PGF salutes the resilience, tenacity and patriotic commitments of the G7 Governors and all leaders of the New PDP calls on them to continue the fight to rescue Nigeria from the grip of a tiny clique that has cornered the political space in Nigeria and now regards the rights and commonwealth of Nigerians as disposable in their desperation to continue in office despite growing unrest in the polity occasioned by PDP’s politics of poverty exclusion. We wish to emphatically restate our resolve to join hands ad work with our colleagues in G7 and New PDP to ensure that the current regressive trend towards authoritarianism, increasing poverty, unemployment and incompetent leadership is arrested.

The PGF also restates its position that another four years of the PDP and the current administration will spell doom for Nigeria and its over 170 million people, thus our determination to rescue Nigeria and provide security and prosperity for Nigerians.
