At
least 15 armed youths from Igbokusu community in Eti-Osa Local
Government, Lagos State, southern Nigeria, went on the rampage Sunday
at 3, Delano Conde Street, near the upscale NICON Town, attacking all
the occupants of the flat.
Victims of the attack told P.M.NEWS
that what started as a small argument snowballed into a vicious attack
that left the victims severely injured and several property destroyed.
The
irate youths from Igokusu, who were armed with broken bottles, knives,
stones, sticks and cutlasses, stabbed the occupants of the flat who were
held hostage for sometime and also robbed of valuable items.
According
to one of the victims, Moses Osho, “my friend and flat mate, Michael
Joshua, had an argument with two young men passing in front of our
house. The exchange of words led to fisticuffs. One of them put a call
across to some people and before we knew it several boys from the
Igbokusu community arrived the scene of the argument with crates of
empty bottles, stones, sticks, knives and cutlasses.”
He further
to disclosed that “we sensed danger and ran inside our flat and locked
the burglary proof at the main entrance. But to our dismay the rampaging
boys kept pelting the building with broken bottles, stones and
practically all they could lay their hands on and they eventually pulled
down the burglary proof before they gained entry into our flat.”
P.M.NEWS
gathered that when the youths entered the apartment, they damaged
household items and stabbed Moses Osho, Michael Joshua and Moses Attah.
One
of the victims, Joshua, said: “At about 3.45 p.m. on Sunday afternoon
an Area Boy from Igbokusu Village came to our area threatning to break
my car’s head lamp, while I was trying to park in front of my
appartment. Then I noticed that two other Area Boys were heavily drunk.
They had bottles in their hands and pointing them at my head lamp. I
came out of the car and told them I will get them arrested and one of
them said don’t I know him in this village? That nobody can arrest him,
that they will kill me.
“All of a sudden, he held me by my shirth
and started hitting me. I was furious and retaliated by hitting him
back. He brought out his phone and made calls to some of his gang
members. He then brought out a bottle and smashed it on the floor, and
stabbed me and my colleague three times. My colleague ran into the house
and locked the door while trying to prevent us from further harm. But
the next thing I heard was that they should break the door. So they
broke into the house, damaged lots of our properties and also stole
Blackberry and Nokia phones. They also made away with about N300,800.
They damaged the A/C, Plasma TV, and Ceiling Board, and escaped before
the police came. It was Moses Osho who ran to the police station.”
Their leader was said to be a cousin to one of the councillors in Eti-Osa Local Government.
The incident was reported at the Ilasan Police Station but before the police team arrived the scene, the attackers had fled.
When P.M.NEWS
visited the scene of the crime, an eyewitness who identified himself as
Albert Onyenenuwe, said: “when the incident happened, my boys in the
shop called to tell me that there was a problem going on within the
vicinity, that our neighbours have been attacked by the village
miscreants, who identified themselves as members Eiye Confraternity.
“They
stormed the street with weapons like cutlasses which they used to
inflict serious injuries on my neighbours and made away with their
laptops, phones, LCD TV45” and wallet containing some money.
“They
should be arrested to set an example because they think this is their
community where they could do what they like. We want the community
leaders to produce those misceants. Our stolen items should be returned
to us. We are demanding for justice from the state government, because
this is not the first time they will carry out this criminal act.”
Speaking
on the incident, the Baale of Igbokusu Community said: “the matter
was brought before me this morning (Monday). On Sunday evening at about
5p.m., the police officers from Ilasan Division also came to me. They
explained all that happened and told me that they want to arrest those
who perpetrated the act. I told them that they must see the parents of
the suspects they wanted to arrest. I made them know that the people
they said commited the crime had all fled. But they must be arrested.”
A police source confirmed that they met the baale over the incident and promised to arrest the suspects.
“And if we do not see them, we will pick their parents,” he vowed.
Also
speaking, the Youth Chairman, Adeshina Ganiu said: “I don’t know
anything that happened in that street. I have not been briefed.”
The
councillor representing Ward A1 in Eti-Osa Local Government, Jamiu
said: “I was called yesterday (Monday) on phone and I went to the scene
of the incident. When I got there, I did not see anybody, though the
information I’am hearing was that my cousin Sodiq was the leader of the
gang. Fine, he is my cousin, I cannot deny him, but I did not send him
to fight, let alone vandalise people’s property.
“The community leaders in Igbokusu and the youh are not speaking with one voice.
“I
am a councillor representing Ward A1. Just about two or three weeks
ago, some thugs were busy looting people’s items. I shouted at them to
stop the act because I did not support them. But the community leaders
and others pamper them so that the leaders will not be dethroned.”
Efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ilasan, proved abortive at press time.

Photos: Nigerian acid attack victim Naomi Oni has eyebrows restored

The acid burned off the skin on her face and scalp and left her temporarily blinded. She lost her eyelids, eyebrows and some of her hair in the assault. Fortunately doctors have been able to rebuild her her features, including taking skin from the back of her ear to make new eyelids for her and now new eyebrows. See more more photos after the cut.

The hotel is set to appeal to local
residents and international travellers alike with four restaurants and stylish
bars on offer. Ekaabo, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, serves up a blend
of Nigerian and international cuisine and overlooks a majestic waterfall, while
Milano offers contemporary Italian cuisine. For those after Far Eastern fare,
the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, Soho*, is the ideal option. At the hotel’s
poolside restaurant, PS/SP, guests can choose from a variety of healthy lunch
and dinner choices and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, while seated next to the
hotel’s Zen garden.
For
event planners and business travellers, the hotel offers state-of-the-art facilities.
Its Grand
African Ballroom can seat up to 1,400 people with an additional six other
meeting rooms, a boardroom and business facilities available. The hotel also features a luxurious
health and fitness centre, which includes a sauna and steam room, and Club
InterContinental.
The
Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, a Senior Advocate of
Nigeria, who was joined by other eminent persons from all walks of life,
performed the grand opening of the hotel at a colourful ceremony characterised
by glitz and glamour.
Fashola
in his speech commended the promoters of
InterContinental Lagos for their vision, saying the building of the hotel was a
welcome development at a time Nigeria was yearning for foreign direct
investments to grow the economy. He noted that continuous investment in the
local economy was the answer to creating more jobs for the teeming unemployed
Nigerians.
“It is clear that there is growth on
the African continent. But growth is a cycle as economists will tell you, and
if we do nothing with the cycle of opportunity, it will move on. It is here now
but we are dealing with growth without enough jobs. There is no miracle about
it, the answer lies in continuous local investments, continuous pushing of the
frontiers of commitment, continuous investments at home and emphasis on the
possibilities that lie here”, he submitted.
Fashola, who commended the Milan Group
and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) for the multi-billion naira investment
in the state, specifically saluted the courage of Mr. Ramesh Valechha for the
bold move even as he assured willing investors of his administration’s
commitment to the growth of the tourism and hospitality sector as well as
foster an environment that can enable investments to thrive.
“The Milan Group and InterContinental
Hotels Group, especially Mr. Ramesh Valechha, did not make this investment
because the Lagos State Government went to look for investors. They made this
investment because the environment was enabling. I salute the commitment and
the belief of the Milan Group in the Lagos and the Nigerian economy. Some have
alluded that commitment to persistent
stubbornness, stubborn persistence was the word I heard about Mr.
Valechha, but I think it is passionate persistence. It is persistence driven
out of conviction.
“And if you want to know how deep that
conviction is, you need to take a turn to the basement of this building. You
will see that persistence and that conviction expressed in several metres deep
of concrete and steel and it shows you how difficult it was to get this project
underway. But they did not give up because they were convinced that this was
the place to put their money”, the Governor said.
Fashola also enjoined Nigerian
entrepreneurs to tap the opportunities created by the current deficit in key
sectors such as hotel, road infrastructure and other utilities that could
create economic growth, jobs and make life better for the people even as he
declared InterContinental Lagos as a ‘’life-defining’’ infrastructure. He urged
Nigerian professionals and entrepreneurs to continue to be the drivers of more
landmark projects of this nature.
Speaking on behalf of the owners of
InterContinental Lagos, the Chairman of Milan Group, Mr. Ramesh Valechha,
disclosed that the newly opened first luxury five-star hotel in the history of
Nigeria has created 650 direct employments and scores of indirect employment in
the hotel value chain.
‘‘We note with a high sense of
satisfaction that we have created 650 direct employments for some Nigerians and
indeed scores of indirect employment for others connected one way or the other
to our hotel value chain as suppliers and service providers. This is part of
our noble contributions to the economic environment within which our businesses
are set’’, Valechha said.
Paying tributes to Nigerians for their
professionalism and resilience, the chairman disclosed that the architectural
design and construction of the 358-room and 23-storey magnificent hotel were
executed by Nigerian professionals while the financing was undertaken by two
local banks – Skye and Wema. He also stated that the successful completion of
the hotel, despite the challenges associated with projects of this magnitude,
underscored the greatness of the vision of the owners and the belief of various
people involved in the project, in the vision.
‘‘Like all large construction
projects, we had our share of challenges associated with projects of this
magnitude. But members of our team have done their utmost to make certain that
we are ready for our opening day! This kind of loyalty has been truly inspiring
and makes us proud of the people of this great country and their unbroken
spirit in the face of challenges. In spite of these challenges, we have made
it, and you are all here to celebrate our success with us’’, he said.
InterContinental Lagos, he added, was
purposefully built and reflected the highest international standards while
assuring consumers of value for their money. According to Valechha, ‘‘we have,
in our own little way introduced some positive narratives that will form the
basis for new conversations about Nigeria at the global stage. I am confident
of one thing; this iconic structure opened today will form the topic of new
positive discourse by International business and leisure tourists who will have
cause to visit Nigeria from now on.’’
In his remarks on behalf of Nigerian
professionals that worked on the design and construction of the magnificent
hotel, the Managing Director of Design Group and the lead architect who
designed the building, Arc. Bayo Odunlami, said the complex was a testimonial of
the high professionalism of Nigerians. While expressing gratitude to the
promoters for their confidence in Nigerians, he said ‘‘this edifice is an
outstanding testimonial that Nigerian professionals have come of age‘’. He
added that it was also a boost for the country’s perception.
On his part, the Managing Director of
Skye Bank, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, commended the resilience of Mr. Valechha
and his team for seeing the project through despite the challenges. He said
apart from changing the Lagos skyline, InterContinental Lagos was ‘‘a hotel of
the future’’ for Nigeria. His Wema Bank counterpart, Mr. Segun Oloketuyi,
described the project as ‘‘a landmark and destination hotel’’, noting that it would
impact the nation economy in terms of direct employment and several value chain
benefits.
Veteran architect, Mr. Robin Johnson,
whom Mr. Odunlami acknowledged as his professional trainer and mentor, saluted Mr.
Valechha for making his vision to become a reality and expressed joy with the
high quality of work done by the local professionals whom he said had helped
the owners ‘‘built their dream exactly the way they wanted it.’’
Earlier on, a media interactive session
was held by the Milan Group and InterContinental Hotels Group managements during
which they spoke on the hotel project and its offerings. According to them, some
of the state-of-art facilities at InterContinental Lagos include 260 superior
rooms, 61 club or business rooms, 36 suites and a presidential suite all
totalling 358 keys.
Other facilities are seven different
types of restaurants and bars that serve continental, Nigerian, Chinese, and
Italian cuisine, a 1000-seat ball room, eight meeting rooms, a business centre,
a board room, and a health floor consisting of most modern gymnasium, swimming
pool, sauna, spa and steam rooms. There is also a swimming pool deck floor with
an open space for seating 1200 or more guests in an open area for cocktails, leisure
and after work relaxation.
General Manager of InterContinental
Lagos, Mr. Didier Coeln said, “Given its excellent location, InterContinental
Lagos is perfectly placed to give our guests access to central business areas, pristine
beaches, and some of the best entertainment options in Lagos,”. “We also understand
that our guests value authenticity and want to experience the local culture. Our
concierge team looks forward to sharing their local knowledge of Lagos so
guests can enjoy an authentic and enriching stay with us.”
The grand opening event was attended
by eminent persons among whom were Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; his predecessor, Chief Joseph Sanusi; Lagos State
Commissioners for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Sola Oworu; Mr. Kayode Opeifa

Sex at an early age made Chris Brown a beast in the bedroom
From The Guardian
He lost his virginity when he was eight years old, to a local girl who was 14 or 15. Seriously? "Yeah, really. Uh-huh." He grins and chuckles. "It's different in the country." Brown grew up with a great gang of boy cousins, and they watched so much porn that he was raring to go. "By that point, we were already kind of like hot to trot, you know what I'm saying? Like, girls, we weren't afraid to talk to them; I wasn't afraid. So, at eight, being able to do it, it kind of preps you for the long run, so you can be a beast at it. You can be the best at it." (Now 24, he doesn't want to say how many women he's slept with: "But you know how Prince had a lot of girls back in the day? Prince was, like, the guy. I'm just that, today. But most women won't have any complaints if they've been with me. They can't really complain. It's all good.

Fan goes crazy at CokoBar concert, shows crowd her goodies while dancing

The CokoBar Music Festival took place last night Sunday 6th October 2013 at London's o2 Indigo and one of the most memorable incident of the night was when a fan (pictured above) was picked from the crowd to come on stage to flex her dancing skills to Flavour's music. The lady got on stage and started out pretty okay, she bounced and shook her bum bum to a delighted crowd...the cheering must have gotten to her because she then went totally crazy, and gave concert goers a peek of her 'selling point' lol. Check out the photos after the cut...*warning* Booty on display :-)

9 year old boy hops plane to Vegas, alone and without ticket
The Transportation Security
Administration officials said they are still trying to
figure out how he did it. CNN reports
Patrick Hogan, a spokesman for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, said the crew of Delta Flight 1651 "became suspicious of the child's circumstances" during the flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas. Crew members got in touch with authorities in Las Vegas and turned the boy over to Child Protective Services, Hogan said in a statement.
"Fortunately, the flight crew took appropriate actions to ensure the child's safety, so the story does have a good ending," he said. Delta said it takes the incident "very seriously" and is working with authorities.
The boy, a runaway from the Twin Cities, spent a good amount of time at
the airport before boarding the plane, KARE said. He was there the day
before, the station reported, citing airport officials. He passed his
time by taking luggage from a carousel, bringing it to an airport eatery
and then ditching it, asking a server to watch the bag "while he went
to the restroom."
The following day the child took the train to the airport, cleared security and made it to Las Vegas nearly without detection.
"Obviously, the fact that the child's actions weren't detected until he was in flight is concerning," Hogan wrote. Still, 33 million people travel through Minneapolis' airport every year, he noted. "I don't know of another instance in my 13 years at the airport in which anything similar has happened," he said.
A flight security expert said it's very concerning that the child made it through several security checks
"All of this (security) since 9/11 has been to keep us safe. And it has, but still we have gaping holes, and this is a perfect example of it," Terry Trippler of ThePlaneRules.com told KARE.
