Monkey Pox hits Delta state, six suspected cases recorded

 

The Delta State Government has revealed that six suspected cases of Monkey Pox have been recorded

in Agbor.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge confirmed the development to Channels Television.
According to him, three of the suspected cases have been treated and discharged, while two of the cases are still being treated at the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, the state capital.
Dr. Azinge says samples of the patients have been sent to the World Health Organisation for confirmation.
Since the airborne viral disease broke out from Bayelsa State, the Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole has listed Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Nasarawa, and Rivers as well as the FCT among the affected States

In an emotional post on her IG page this morning, Tonto Dikeh revealed what life was like for her as a newbie in Lagos 10 years ago and how she betrayed a helper/close friend (pictured above) because of her ex-husband, Churchill. She wrote:

Our story fast forward 10years ago..
I came into Lagos with my bags to start a new life as a SUPER GREAT CELEBRITY with little or no money in my pocket...
I struggled but it was all fun and exciting because it was a life I never knew..Excited I finally left HOME?? and my birth city.
I met this young lady who opened up her home and life to me..She lived in Mende,A little one room apartment but it was our heaven..We made mad plans there,We cried together,Laughed together,got broke,Famous and successfully rich together..You never for one day complained about how we miss used your clothes or home or ate your food without contributing to it smh.
Folake I still sit and ponder what kind of woman you truly are...You did all of this and much more and today I can only feel so much shame that when it was my turn to be a true friend like you were I betrayed that love because if a man.
I asked you to leave my home because I too ashamed to let you see that after marriage I was housing a man...I knew you needed me more but I thought I was doing the right thing(How cld I have knew any better)...
I remember how you begged me,knelt down,Cried and prayed with me when I told you I was pregnant with king and I had no intentions of been a mother..You spoke to me just like a true sister and God sent,you told me king wld be the greatest love I wld feel...Ever since that day I loved King,kept him and today am a mom and a Great one cos God used you to save us.

The story of Chigoziem Emereuwa is quite touching and inspiring at the same time.

She survived a car accident that claimed the lives of her entire family and now she’s set to graduate with a PhD in Pure Mathematics at the very young age of 27.

Speaking recently on why she chose to study mathematics, she said 'I am not one of those who realised their passion for numbers at a young age. I always wanted to be a chemistry lecturer just like my mum so I planned to study Chemistry in University. I was only 15 when I finished high school and began my university education so when it became time to choose a discipline, my family narrowed it down to Banking and Finance, Mathematics and Geography. I did well in Mathematics but I thought that was normal for every student and Geography was because the environment always fascinated me and I had sworn to travel so I could see more. I chose Mathematics eventually because it was one of the few subjects that didn’t bore me and I thought it would give me a wider career option in the future. I credit my family for helping me understand my strengths and weaknesses.

Her life however changed on the night she lost her entire nuclear family. On the 17^th of August 2001, whilst traveling with her parents, siblings and one of her aunts for her Mum’s sister’s wedding, their vehicle got hit by a truck. No member of her family made it to the hospital as they died in the accident.

“I only remember being in the back seat, playing a travel game with my sister and then waking up in hospital. I don’t recall any form of PTSD as my paternal family made sure I wasn’t alone, I didn’t even get a chance to mourn properly. It seemed like the loss hit my aunts more than it did me so I had to be strong. However, my grades did go down and my mom was no longer there to push me. I felt no urge to work hard since I had learnt that you could lose everything in a second so, why bother?” She said.

Billionaire kidnapper, Evans, trial resumes today

 

The trial of notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, continues today at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, Lagos. Evans and five others were brought to court this morning in cuffs. Evans who was arrested on June 10th, was first arraigned in court on August 30th on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. He pled guilty to the charges and was afterward remanded at the maximum Kirikiri prison.

Unlike the first day of his arraignment when heavy security men were stationed within and around the court premises,  only two armored tanks were packed at the two entrances to the court this morning.

 A week before 23-year-old Babangida was to travel to Zaria, where he was seeking admission at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), a girl simply identified as Abiodun cut off his tongue. Narrating her son's ordeal, Babangida’s mother, Hajiya Hassana Ali, said the suspect who is a relative of their neighbour’s wife, used to send Babangida on errands.

They started going to places together. When Hajiya Hassana noticed how Abiodun sometimes insulted him, she advised her son to stay away from her. And he did. After a certain period, they started getting close again but when Babangida noticed his mother’s displeasure, he kept his distance from Abiodun, again.

One night when Babangida went out to urinate, Abiodun pounced on him, choked him and cut off his tongue. Abiodun’s brother-in-law who heard the commotion when he also came out to relieve himself inquired whom she was with in the toilet, and she claimed she was alone. When he noticed blood from beneath the door, he broke down the toilet door. Upon seeing Babangida on the floor in a pool of blood, he went to his mother’s house and informed her.

The girl was almost lynched but Hajiya Hassana intervened and ensured she was taken to the police station.

The victim was rejected in several hospitals because his tongue was cut off from its root. Eventually, he was admitted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

According to the doctors, there is hope that the tongue would grow a little since the patient was still young. This would enable him communicate to some extent.

Hajiya Hassana however alleged that there was a plot at the police station to release Abiodun on bail and that the police had already been paid N30, 000 by the girl’s family and were waiting for a balance of N20, 000.

Yahaya Suleiman, the victim’s elder brother, also accused the police of changing Babangida’s statement. He explained that where the victim wrote that he went to pee and wrote ‘fiss’ instead of piss, the police changed it to ‘kiss’.

At the court, the judge, upon seeing Babangida’s condition, ruled that Biodun be remanded in prison until her next appearance in court.

Suleiman said that before the incident, Biodun had been heard saying she would soon be driving a big car and would rent a nice house.

Babangida’s mother also said there was the possibility the girl wanted to use her son’s tongue for rituals.
