75-year-old, others killed as buildings collapse in Lagos

Site of the collapsed buildings

Three people lost their lives on the Lagos Island on Wednesday after a three-storey building collapsed on a bungalow beside it.
PUNCH Metro learnt that among those killed were a four year-old girl, a 75- year-old man, identified simply as Baba Olorunosebi, and a trader.
The girl, who sustained injury to her eye, was said to have died on her way to the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, 11 people were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building by residents.
Our correspondent learnt that among the 11, five of them were little children and had been taken to Massey Children Hospital for medical attention.
The three-storey building on Alli Street was said to have cracked and collapsed around 10pm on Wednesday and fallen on the six bedroom bungalow, killing the old man.
The trader, was said to have been sleeping in his shop on the ground floor of the three-storey building when it came down.
Residents told PUNCH Metro that the building had earlier been marked for demolition by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
It was learnt that the collapsed building, which belonged to a late white cap chief, had been marked for demolition three years ago when another structure in the same area collapsed.
An eyewitness, Mayowa Akinmarin, said he was buying food from a man in front of the building when the incident occured.
He said, “I was buying food from a vendor in front of the affected building when I heard a big bang. The next thing, I saw heavy blocks from the house flying about.
“The food vendor and I managed to escape, but his brother sustained injury.”
Akinmarin said he led other youths in the area on rescue mission and started digging into the rubble which led to the rescue of some occupants of the six-room building.
One of the residents of the affected bungalow, Mr. Joseph Owoeye, told PUNCH Metro that majority of those who escaped the incident were away from the house.
Owoeye said, “I usually sleep around 9.30pm, but on Wednesday night, I just went out to buy food and to watch Arsenal and West Bromwich Football match at Bamgbose Street along with some boys living in our house when the incident occurred.”
When our correspondent visited the scene around 9am, it was observed that state officials had completely demolished the two structures.
Policemen from the Area ‘A’ command, policemen from divisions on the Island and members of the community development associations in the area were seen directing rescue efforts, while the scene was cordoned off.
The General Manager, LASBCA, Mrs. Animashaun Odunayo, however said the agency had yet to identify who owned the house.
She said the building, which was recently renovated, had only been identified as distressed on Wednesday.
She said, “We received a distress call about the building and we visited the place on Wednesday. We sealed the place and told the occupants to evacuate immediately. We also sealed two other buildings on Adeniji Adele. We could not have demolished the building immediately because there is a process for doing things.
“Lagos Island residents are of the habit of turning a deaf ear to warnings. Immediately we left the area, people broke the seals and moved back into the building.”

I wasn’t angry at Sounders coach – Martins

Obafemi Martins

Seattle Sounders forward, Obafemi Martins, has cleared the air on the reported bust-up he had with his coach, Sigi Schmid, on Sunday after he was substituted in the 82nd minute of the game against LA Galaxy.
The former Levante player acknowledged Marc Burch, who replaced him, but snubbed his coach on his way to the bench.
While making his way to the sideline, Martins made his displeasure known by yelling and gesturing. He then walked past Schmid on his way to the bench, with neither the coach nor player acknowledging each other.
Schmid said he understood the emotions players attached to matches, saying he and Martins had talked about the incidence.
Martins, who had just one shot in the game and was rendered mostly ineffective, said his frustration was more with his performance.
“I just get angry with the fact that I didn’t do much in the game. So I got angry that I got put out. But I’m not thinking of getting angry with the manager. I just get angry with myself that I’ve not been doing my best in the game. That’s it,” the striker to journalist in Washington on Wednesday.
He reasserted his commitment to the team, noting that he had been playing through pain.
“I can’t really do anything right now,” he said about lingering injuries. “If I feel pain, I’ll keep playing. I have to get through the end of the season because we have important games right now. I hope it’s going to get better, day by day when I train.”

Truck crushes 12 in Ogun

Scene of the incident
No fewer than six people were feared dead, while six others were critically injured after a tipper driver rammed into roadside traders at old Ota Toll Gate in Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the accident, which happened around 11am on Thursday, was caused by brake failure.
Eyewitnesses said the sand-filled tipper marked STOCKINGER STEYR and with number plate JJJ 551 XB, ran into the traders who were selling pepper, oil and bread among others.
An eyewitness said, “The incident happened around 11am. The tipper was coming from Lagos when it had a brake failure.
“As the driver struggled with the vehicle, the vehicle veered off the road and rammed into the traders.
“It was not a beautiful sight; the tipper was climbing over the women, men and children selling bread, pepper and other wares by the roadside. Those buying too were not spared.”
He said the driver of the vehicle immediately fled to avoid mob attack.
Our correspondent observed that the area was covered with blood stains, and smashed wares.
As tears flowed, the residents of the area and other sympathizers started making frantic efforts to take some of the victims to hospitals.
The police and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Enforcement Corps later arrived at the scene.
The FRSC Ota unit Commander, Mr. Sunday Omafu, said two people died in the incident, while seven others were critically injured.
He said one of the dead was an official of NUPENG, while the second victim was a woman buying pepper for a naming ceremony.
He said, “These two people have been identified by their relatives and taken to the Ifo General Hospital mortuary. The rest who are in critical condition have been taken to the Sango General Hospital for treatment.”
He said that the tragedy was caused by disobedience to the state’s traffic rules, adding that the corps would continue to organise sensitisation programmes for members of the public.
He said, “We have always advised that they should not be selling at the toll gate because it is dangerous. We have been driving away okada riders from the road, but they keep returning because they think you don’t want them to make money. We hope to increase our enlightenment programme because this period of the year can be challenging.”
Omafu added that the tipper had been towed to the premises of the Ota Area Command of the Nigeria Police.
The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, however, said three people died, while four were injured.

I'm my own barber - Banky W

Bankole Wellington aka Banky W is a household name in the Nigerian music industry, having made his mark, making hit songs and grooming the likes of Wizkid, Skales, among others. He reveals, in this interview with IBUKUN AKINYEMI, what his fans and many other people don’t know about him.
What have you been up to recently?
I’ve been working hard, pretty much. On the music side, I’ve been working on collaborations with different artistes.I’ve recently completed really good songs for Black Magic, Sarkodie, MoCheddah, Lynxxx, Ketchup, Victoria Kimani and Vector. Internally (within EME), I’m contributing to Wizkid’s album, as well as projects for Skales, ShayDee and Niyola. Outside of all this, I’ve been giving speeches at various events, as well as working on a couple of potentially great movie projects.
How did the musical journey begin?
It really started when I was a kid. I sang everywhere. From Church, to school and neighbourhood street parties and in many groups. Professionally, it started in 2002/2003 while I was in the University. That’s when I actually recorded for the first time and set up the EME record label independently and started putting music out.
Having lots of hit songs, which song would you say brought you to limelight?
Most people think it all started with the release of ‘Ebute Meta’ (Umbrella Remix) but actually, it began with a song called “My Regret” that came out while I was in the United States of America. That is the song that brought me attention from people all over the world; I won the John Lennon songwriting award in R&B for that song.
What was the inspiration behind it?
Like the majority of my successful songs, the inspiration was drawn from a woman I was intimate with at the time, and the ups and downs of our relationship.
What were your greatest musical influences growing up?
R&B, Hip hop, and African Music. Jay-Z, R Kelly, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Fela and everyone in between.
What would you have been if not an artiste?
I studied engineering in University so I could have stuck with that. Or I would have been an Artist (drawing, painting etc), or a lawyer, or teacher.
Is Banky in a relationship?
Not at the moment.
Tell us something no one knows about you.
I’m not sure how many people know this, but I shave my head and shape my beard myself. I’m my own barber. I’ve been doing it for years. It started when I was in University and didn’t have a lot of money, I learnt to maintain it myself so I didn’t need to spend money on it every week. And now I’m good at it so I’m my own barber. I will probably open a barbershop at some point.
What differentiate you from other artist?
I’d like to think it’s the totality of what I bring to the table, creatively and musically. There are better vocalists than me, for sure. But I not only sing.. I write, I rap, I produce, I entertain… I’m a motivational speaker and philanthropist, I act and I direct. It’d be hard to line up a lot of people who are able to do everything that I do… but of course, we give God the glory and the fans the thanks for letting me be myself.
Coming up at the 10th position of the Forbes rating, how did you feel?
I don’t believe very much in such things. Let’s be honest, the real wealthy people are the businessmen like Dangote and the politicians (some of whomgot there by looting Nigeria). They’re the ones with real money. This entertainment business is too much hype. It is more fame than fortune. So I’m not thrilled to it and I don’t think any of us should buy into it too much. I’d rather be wealthy and quiet than famous and broke.
As the CEO of EME, what challenges are you facing?
My official title is Chairman and Creative Director of EME. And I guess I’m facing the same challenges most label executives face… in that, you have a limited set of resources and a lot of people to look after. So you do the best you can to try and help each Artist achieve his/her dreams under your care.
What is your normal day like?
I try to pray but I definitely need to do a better job at that. At least three or four times a week, I try to put in work-out sessions with my personal trainer. After that it’s a mix of things; meetings, press obligations, social outings and performances or appearances that I’m booked to make.
Banky seems to be humble, what is the secret?
The truth is, the same people who love you and hail you today might be the ones crucifying you tomorrow, so you owe it to yourself to keep a level head. Don’t get too excited by the success, and don’t get too depressed by the failures. I just try to do the best job I can, and I remember my parents and how they raised me, and I surround myself with people that keep me in check (my manager, partners, etc). Some people make the deadly mistake of surrounding themselves with “Yes Men” the minute they become successful and the danger in that is there’s no balance. If everyone around you agrees with everything you do or say, and says you’re the best all the time, you’re taking a risk. Even the President of the USA, the most powerful man on earth, has a system of checks-and-balances in place, with congress and the Judiciary having the power to check him if his actions are too far out of line… how much more us?
How did you manage having a scandal free reputation?
I’d say probably the same reasons I stated above, plus, I carry myself the way I want people to see me and treat me. I’m no saint; trust me, not at all. But I am careful about how much I leave out there because people will use any and everything possible against you to bring you down.
How do you relax?
I try to sneak into the movie theatres occasionally, I hang out with friends and family, I read novels, and I love to travel and just go to places where less people know me so I can walk around and chill.
How do you feel when you are harassed by a fan?
There are times when it can be a lot to handle (like when you’re on a date, or with your parents, etc) but the truth is, it’s better that people want to harass you, or take pictures, or whatever. It’s worse if, as an artiste, you show up and no one notices or cares to disturb you at all. So it shows that you’re doing something right if people want to disturb you; so I definitely appreciate it, and I always try to make sure I honour every request by fans to take pictures or anything of that sort.
What is your take when people speak bad about you and Wizkid?
Jesus Christ was perfect, and people still spoke bad about him to the point that they killed him. How much less you, or me or Wiz? People will always want to say all kinds of things… and these days, people love bad news. And if you don’t give them the bad news, they start to create false bad news just because it’s more interesting. But there isn’t much you can do about it. You just try to be the best person you can be, and keep it moving.
You like hats a lot, why?
I have stopped wearing them a lot because people make too much of a big deal about it; my last CD cover, I went without it, and I do that a lot more these days. However, I really do like hats, and I think they add to my styling and make me stand out from the crowd.
What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
That is classified information. If I tell you I would have to kill you. (General laughter)
Any album in the making?
I’m actually working on a project now that will show my versatile side… people might not even believe it’s me when they first hear it. I will be doing more rap and more commercial sounding music… the purpose is just to show people that while I love to do R&B, they should never put me in a box and expect me to only do that. I’m versatile and I have a lot I want to show and prove. Stay tuned. I’m really excited about it. In the mean time we’re still pushing singles and videos from the R&BW album though.
What is the gadget you can’t do without?
My Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.
What is the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?
I’m honestly not sure. I don’t put too much value on material things like clothes and accessories.
Tell us your educational background
I went to Corona Primary School, Ikoyi; then Home Science Association Secondary School ,Alakuko, however I did my JSS2 year in Adrao in VI. I did 1 year in Colonie Central High School in Albany New York, and I got a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy New York.
Last word.
To the fans, thank you so much and God bless you all real good.

Boko Haram linked to group behind Kenya mall attack • US report says Nigerian sect may have anti-aircraft missiles

Kenya mall

A report by a committee of  the United States House of Representatives has linked the  fundamentalist Islamist sect, Boko Haram,  to al Shabaab, the terror group that carried out the September 21 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya.
Al-Shabaab is a Somali-based group whose members are said to be highly proficient in suicide bombing.
The  report dated September 13, 2013 and  entitled,  ‘Boko Haram: Growing Threat to the US Homeland’, also acknowledged the growing relationship between the  Nigerian sect  and another terror group, the Al Qaeda in the land of the Islamic Maghreb.
The  39-page report noted that “while there is no evidence that al Qaeda’s core in Afghanistan and Pakistan commands Boko Haram’s operations, it is clear from the words of multiple US  officials and  media reports  that Boko Haram is supportive of, and supported by  Al Qaeda networks such as AQIM.”
It noted that “it is the unity of ideology and mutual hatred for the West between the Al Qaeda networks that exposes the danger Boko Haram poses to the U.S Homeland.”
The committee described Boko Haram as a “hardened and sophisticated terror network” that required  multiple simultenous local and international efforts to enhance the capacity and capability of the the Nigerian Police and the military to curtail its activities.
It said there was an urgent need by the US to designate the sect as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation because it has shown  no signs of ending its aggression  against the government of Nigeria and the Western world.
The commiteee wrote, “The world is coming to know more about Boko Haram; their intentions, what they’re capable of, and who is supporting them.
“The US Intelligence Community is working to erase the gaps in our understanding of Boko Haram, but it is already evident they are a serious threat to US interests and potentially to the US Homeland.
‘‘Acknowledging this threat publicly by designating Boko Haram an FTO will establish a legal mechanism for prosecuting any supporters within US jurisdictions.
“This is an increasingly important tool given their attempts to market themselves to a wider international audience.
“Boko Haram shows no signs of ending its campaign against the government of Nigeria and the Western world. Two years after their August 2011 bombing of a United Nations facility in Abuja, Nigeria, Boko Haram remains a threat to the international community, and continues to be a developing threat to the US  Homeland.”
The report said that Boko Haram had “highly skilled bomb makers who might have received training  from experienced militants elsewhere, potentially indicating a stronger relationship between them and AQIM or Al Shabaab.
It said that besides building sophisticated weaponry, it was now possible that Boko Haram had acquired or will acquire SA-7  and SA-24  shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles.
The SA-7  missile is effective up to 1,300 metres, while some newer models reach altitudes of almost four kilometres. Although most aircraft cruise around 9,140 metres,  the SA-7  could be used to target aircraft during  takeoff and landing.
In the report, the committee warned, “It does not take much imagination to picture the threat these weapons would pose to commercial aviation in Abuja if they fell into Boko Haram hands.”
Out of the 20,000 such weapons in Libya, only 5,000 of them had been secured through a $40m US programme to buy up loose missiles during the fall of the Gadhafi regime. Most are believed to have found their way into  countries that share common boundaries with Nigeria.
The committee acknowledged that the  Goodluck Jonathan administration had taken some potentially promising steps in its effort to fight Boko Haram.
It said the appointment of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), a northern Nigerian Muslim, to the position of National Security Adviser on June 23, 2012, demonstrated Jonathan’s willingness to give northerners and Muslims a visible role in Nigeria’s struggle with Boko Haram.
“Dasuki has taken the lead in organising government’s fight against Boko Haram, and his background as a Muslim from the North may give him obvious and potent symbolic significance,” the committee said.
In spite of this, the committee observed that concerns regarding the capability of the Jonathan administration to effectively deal with Boko Haram remained prominent.
The committee said without foreign assistance from countries such as the US and the UK, the Nigerian government would  almost certainly face a prolonged battle in neutralising Boko Haram.
According to the committee, the State Department, which has also engaged Nigeria through its African Coastal and Border Security programme, has focused its assistance on peacekeeping support, training, border and maritime security, and increasing military professionalisation.
But it lamented that in spite of the training, the “JTF  continues to behave unprofessionally, and has been accused of human rights abuses by Human Rights Watch, among other  entities, including the State Department’s most recent annual human rights report.”
It also warned that greater pressure must be applied to the JTF to abandon counter-productive and brutal tactics alienating northerners.
The committee said  failure of the Secretary of State to designate the Boko Haram sect an FTO, was  the ‘most obvious flaw in the US effort to combat it and prevent its expansion.’
It said, “If Boko Haram were to be designated an FTO, it would support US intelligence community efforts to curb the group’s financing, stigmatise and isolate it internationally, heighten public awareness and knowledge, and signal to other governments the US takes the threat from Boko Haram seriously.
“If Boko Haram is not designated an FTO, its potential threat to the US and its capability to attack the homeland would likely increase. It is therefore an urgent next step to take in fighting this growing al Qaeda affiliate in Nigeria.”
The committee further said as the number of attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram had increased in 2013, so had  the attention paid to the group by the US.

ASUU strike: We’ll shut pry, secondary schools —NUT

•Students protest in Kano •Strike to continue until

THE leadership of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has vowed to ground both primary and secondary schools in the country if the Federal Government fails to resolve its feud with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as soon as possible.
NUT president, Michael Olukoya, speaking at a news conference in Abuja, on Thursday, said the solidarity strike would be total, as teachers across the country were being mobilised.
He said though primary and secondary schools had just resumed from vacation, NUT would not hesitate to send the children back home until the Federal Government honoured the agreement reached with the lecturers.
He said this was part of the resolution of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union on Thursday, called to deliberate on the state of the nation and to ready arrangements for the celebration of the forthcoming 2013 World Teachers Day holding on October 5.
The teachers also demanded, among other things, that the National Assembly should, in the process of the ongoing constitution review, remove primary education away from the ambit of local governments in Nigeria.
“Both primary and secondary schools will be shut in totality if the Federal Government does not or continue to fail to respect the agreement it entered with ASUU.
“We cannot continue to claim that we are giant in Africa when our children leave to  Cotonou that is not up to Oyo State to receive university education.
“At this point, we wish to register our strong solidarity and sympathy with our professional brothers in the universities, in their struggle not just for improved condition of service but for the return of quality education in the universities through appropriate funding and provision of infrastructural facilities.
“We also sympathise with our students in these universities who are at the receiving end of this unending conflict of two titans — ASUU and Federal Government.
“The current struggle of ASUU is most nationalistic, patriotic and self-sacrificing. We commend our university teachers for remaining solid and unmovable in the face of all threats,” he said.
Olukoya equally called on the Federal Government to demonstrate responsiveness and similar patriotism by granting the demands of ASUU which, he said, were “reasonable, just and fair.”
He also expressed regrets that Kogi, Benue and Cross River states had remained recalcitrant on the implementation of the N18,000 national minimum wage and payment of 27.5 per cent enhanced allowance to their teachers.
Olukoya, however, said while teachers in Kogi were currently on strike over minimum wage and 27.5 per cent allowance, the Benue State government had refused to pay minimum wage to teachers in primary schools.
On primary school management, Olukoya maintained that while the teachers were not opposed to local government autonomy, “its financial responsibility to primary education should be built into consolidated account of the federation, for the benefit of first-line charge to primary education.”
He added that the lost glory of quality education would continue to elude the nation until the country rose to improve on the quality of lives and work of teachers.
BUK students protest in Kano
Hundreds of students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), on  Thursday, staged a peaceful protest and gave the Federal Government one week ultimatum to meet with all the demands of ASUU or face the wrath of Nigerian students.
Making the assertion on Thursday, while addressing other students at BUK gate, the students union president, Sani Ibrahim, said they were compelled  to stage the protest “because we are tired of staying at home.”
It, however, took the prompt intervention of police officers dispatched from Bompai police headquarters to restrict the rampaging students.
According to the students, “we are giving ASUU and the Federal Government one week to sort things out and resume lectures, otherwise, Nigerian students will look for other alternatives to fight for our rights. Education is our right and no one can take it away from us.”
They insisted that the two parties in the dispute should come to the negotiation table and settle their scores for the interest of Nigerian students.

Strike to continue until ... —ASUU
The Ibadan zone of ASUU has said the 12-week nationwide strike would continue unabated until the Federal Government fully implements its demands as stated in the 2009 agreement entered into by both parties.
In a release signed by the acting zonal coordinator, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, on behalf of member-institution in the zone, comprising Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states, made available to newsmen on Thursday, “ASUU is assuring Nigerians that it will not back out on its struggle for the emancipation of our people, as it would ensure the government is made to do what is right in the education sector.”
The union added that “this is a commitment that all members of the union have vowed to pursue to its logical conclusion.”
Ogbinaka, in the release, noted that after the meeting with Vice President Namadi Sambo, last week Thursday, it was clear that “the Federal Government is merely paying lip service to education in Nigeria and deceiving the public on its commitment to its transformation agenda.”
The union called for the continued support and understanding of members of the public and all stakeholders in the struggle to save public education in the country.

Stop this strike, women group urges
The National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Oyo State chapter, has urged the Federal Government and ASUU to end the lingering crisis in the interest of the students.
The president of the society, Mrs Victoria Adetona, made this call while briefing journalists ahead of the induction of the Oyo State governor’s wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, as the matron of the society.
“We thought this strike will not last long, but it is getting out of hand, because our children are lagging behind academically and will not be able to meet up with their colleagues in other parts of the world.
“The FG is to be blamed because it signed an agreement with the university lecturers and does not want to honour it. There is the need to end this strike, otherwise mothers will take drastic action,” she said.
Adetona described the stay at home of university students as unnecessary, noting that it would affect the quality of graduates that would be produced in the nearest future.

G7 govs not out to break PDP —Wamakko

THE governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko on Thursday said the G7 governors never had the intention of breaking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contrary to general impression.
He said the G7 governors were the most misunderstood, most especially on their desire to turn around the fortunes of the ruling party, amid their resolve to re-establish the rule of law and sincerity of purpose in all operations by the PDP.
He said he and his colleagues never for once nursed the aim of breaking the PDP which he said would soon regain its status as the strongest political party in Nigeria.
Wamakko made this known in a chat with newsmen in Sokoto as he noted that the current unrest in PDP was part of processes which, according to him usually end up strengthening democratic practice.
He said PDP was not the only party in Nigeria that experience crises, stating that political parties in even advanced democracies had passed through worst crises which he said never made them to break-up.
The Sokoto governor said the struggles by the G7 governors within PDP were to ensure that no individual or group will be strong enough to hijack the machinery of the party.
He said the governors had only committed themselves to ensuring the suppression of what he described as parochial and selfish interest by some few members. He said the impression that certain members of the party were bigger than the others had been the root of the ongoing problem in the PDP.
He said, “The only solution to the problem in PDP is sincerity of purpose and return of the rule of law. If we can attain this, the party will emerge from the crises stronger than ever.
“We need to overcome display of personal and selfish interests by the few who feel that they are greater than the party. No one is greater than the party and the early we realised this the stronger we will become as a party.”
He said if the few members of PDP who he said had arrogated authorities to themselves continue to insist on having their ways all the time, such may cause the party to break up.
On this he stressed, “I was in the United States in the 70s, and I can recall that at a particular time, some members of the Democratic Party wanted Jimmy Carter to be president at all cost, while others preferred Kennedy. The two opposing sides did not come to terms on their interests and that paved the way for the emergence of Ronald Regan.”
He said the struggle by the G7 governors were just and necessary for the PDP to rediscover itself early enough.

Iwuanyawu's kids were not in support of his marriage' - family source

A close family source of billionaire business man Emmanuel Iwuanyawu's first daughter has denied she granted any interview saying the children were in support of their father's new marriage to 26year old, Frances Chinonyerem Enwerem. The family source who called me to deny the report, said:
"Nwadiuto Iheakanwa couldn't have granted that interview because she was sick in a foreign hospital and therefore did not grant any interview and she wasn't even at the wedding. We also know that Iwuanyawu's children did not support their father marrying a girl young enough to be his granddaughter. His first grandchild is 19 years old and this lady is not even up to 26 like is being reported in the media. Iwuanyanwu would threaten fire and brimstone to anyone who dares his choice. Truly all is not well in the family"

The 'White Widow' behind the Kenyan mall massacre was in Nigeria

According to a report by UK Daily Mirror, Samantha Lewthwaite, the British woman known as the “White Widow” accused of masterminding the Kenyan shopping mall massacre that left 68 people dead and over 170 injured was in Nigeria sometime ago and evaded detection.

From Daily Mirror;
If White Widow Samantha Lewthwaite is on the run she will be hard to catch. If  Lewthwaite were to be on the run in Kenya, Nigeria or Somalia, it would be a easier to evade detection than in Europe. She would be wearing a veil, and sensitivities about searching Muslim women would be observed so she could easily slip through difficult checkpoints.
In Nigeria, where police forces are notoriously corrupt, there were reports she was almost caught a while ago, but she bribed her way out of trouble. Extremist communities such as al-Shabaab are tight-knit in these countries, making it difficult to recruit agents to penetrate them and trace her.
And Lewthwaite may hold a great deal of power as a special kind of jihadist, having proved her worth in previous attacks. As a white convert mum and widow of a 7/7 bomber, she would be invaluable propaganda and would command huge loyalty. Also, the austere nature of her adopted culture means she would rarely go out, so there would be few opportunities to follow her. Bounties have failed to nail jihadists as money has no value to individuals loyal to the cause.

Epic fight! Kanye West VS talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel

Kanye West went on Twitter a few hours ago to slam popular US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel for making a comedy spoof of one of his 'honest' interviews.' Jimmy Kimmel Live poked fun at Kanye's much-talked-about interview with BBC Radio One and the rapper went off on twitter. This is rare so it's kind of epic! Lol Check out more Tweets from Kanye and Jimmy Kimmel's response after the cut.

Jimmy Kimmel's response below...

During his monologue on his show last night, Jimmy Kimmel addressed Kanye's Twitter rant.
He said:
"Quick question. Did anyone else get a very angry phone call from Kanye West about an hour and a half ago? Just me? OK, I didn't know if he was mad at all of us. He told me I had two choices: apologize publicly...and that was really the only choice!. The other choice he gave was that my life—'Your life, is going to be much better if you apologize.' Then he started tweeting today and I don't even know if I've seen some of these tweets, because they're happening as we speak..."
Then Jimmy started going through Kanye's tweets and addressed the f--king Ben Affleck tweet
"Which, by the way, was a spoof," Jimmy reminded everyone. "I don't know if he thought that was news." Noting the use of the hash tags "#nodisrespecttobenaffleck" and "#alldisrespecttojimmy kimmel," he cracked, "A lot of hash in those tags."
"And he told me this on the phone, I swear, he said, 'I am the most powerful voice in media. I am 'Pac! He said 'I am 'Pac' a few times to me. He said, 'You'll never be able to show your face at a 14-year-old's high school football game and be cool again.'
"He really is 'Pac," Jimmy said, smiling but looking a bit baffled. "That's right out of the Tupac playbook, isn't it?"
"I don't understand it, I don't know why he's angry again. I thought the bit was pretty innocuous. Finally I'm in a rap feud."
"Right now we're at Def-Kanye Five," Jimmy concluded. "Thanks, Kanye, appreciate it."

Okada man flings himself in front of oncoming trailer over seizure of his bike

A desperate, angry Okada man tried to kill himself yesterday Thursday September 26th by throwing himself in front of a trailer and then, an SUV after his motorcycle was seized in Oyo State.

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, the unidentified Okada man was stopped by officers of the Oyo State Commercial Vehicle Registration Unit and upon checking his papers, alleged they were fake, after which they seized his Okada.

According to eyewitnesses the man pleaded with the officers for a while but when his begging fell on deaf ears, he attempted suicide by flinging himself in front of two on coming vehicles.

Fortunately there were people around the area to rescue him both times. He later went into shock and started foaming from the mouth. Some policemen arrived the scene and took the man to the hospital.

Train kills man (cuts him into pieces) in Oshodi

Some eyewitnesses said the man threw himself in front of the train, some said he was just walking across the railway track with his friends when a train coming from Agege approached early yesterday morning around the Bolade area of Oshodi. Don't know which one is accurate but there's one fact; the unidentified man was crushed into pieces by the train. When I say into pieces, I mean head off, hand off,  leg off, cut into two from the stomach. Horrific!

Please I beg you don't open the photos, it will give you nightmares. But if you insist, see them after the cut..

Pics thanks to a LIBer who witnessed it @kordayty.
