Okagbare Has Made Nigeria Proud- George Aluo

The Sports Editor, Saturday Sun, George Aluo, on Tuesday commended Blessing Okagbare  for winning a silver medal at the on-going IAAF championships in Moscow after 14 long years of waiting.
“Blessing has done very well for Nigeria, though she had a slow start in the 100m race she redeemed herself with the long jump win”, he said on Channels Television’s morning breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.
He said that the silver medal is as good as the gold because she only lost by .2 which isn’t much noting that “if Nigeria buckles up we also have great chances with the 4x100m race women and the 4x400m race with the likes of Glory Asumunu in the race”.
He urged private investors and the Nigerian government to invest in Nigerian athletes. He mentioned athletes like Regina George and Glory Asumunu as athletes that have a chance of bringing more medals home if they are promoted, appreciated, trained and nurtured by their country.
“When Blessing was discovered in Delta state the state governor took special interest in her, and she was even used to advertise for First Bank, also these serve as a booster for the athletes”, he added.
He concluded by saying that we need to identify the athletes that have potential and make the welfare of these athletes top priority.
